The tax season is in full swing, and Illinois residents who have already filed their returns may be wondering how they can check the status of a potential refund they should receive.
If you have already filed an income declaration, here’s what you need to know:
State reimbursement status
Illinois residents are encouraged to use two different tools. First, the “Where’s My Refund” system checks whether the State Revenue Department initiated the refund process after reviewing the payer’s tax return.
If IDOR initiated the refund process, taxpayers can visit the website of the Illinois Comptroller, which operates the “Find Your Illinois Tax Refund” system.
Both tools require specifying the taxpayer’s name, as well as his social security number.
If there is a difference between the refund you were entitled to on your declaration and the refund that was received, the state will send a notification within 7-10 business days, according to the IDOR website.
Status of federal compensation
Those who need to check the status of their federal refund can do so on the IRS website. Taxpayers need to enter their social security number or taxpayer identification number, the status of filing documents and the exact amount of money they expect to receive as a refund.
Taxpayers are asked to wait at least 24 hours if they submitted documents by email, and wait four weeks before checking the status if the declaration was submitted in paper form.
Taxpayers who want to know the status of a refund for previous years are asked to wait three to four days after submitting an electronic declaration.
It should be borne in mind:
The state says refunds usually take longer due to enhanced identity theft and fraud prevention measures.
According to officials, using a direct deposit instead of a paper check can also speed up the refund process.
