There are quite a few places where it is not advisable to take pictures because it can be life threatening, but there are also places in the state where photography is illegal and punishable.
Railways
The relevant law reads:
“No one is allowed to walk or ride on the right-of-way or rail yard of any state railroad. Photographing of the railway and railway stations is also prohibited. You can be fined up to $500 for violations.
Polling station
WQAD reports that photographing at the polls is illegal in both Iowa and Illinois. That’s why both states have set up little selfie points at polling stations where you can take a picture. In other places on the sites, photography is prohibited.
While you are driving
It should be taken for granted, but you can’t take pictures or selfies while driving. Using a cell phone while driving is considered distracted driving under Illinois law and is punishable by at least a fine.
Some public places
Just because a place is considered public doesn’t mean you can just take pictures there. Check out this list of public places in Chicago and Illinois to know which public places are not allowed to be photographed.
